I created several Felted Brooch DIY craft kits to sell during my April exhibition in Felixstowe. The kits featured a handmade and unique felt disc, which was about the size of the palm of my hand. I added embroidery threads in similar colours, a brooch pin, and some instructions and inspiration to the pack itself.
Making the felt discs is quick and easy. It would make a lovely activity to share with children. I’m sharing the process here in a short video tutorial.
To make a felt disc, you will need the following equipment and materials:
Merino wool tops in different colours
Bubble wrap
Olive soap, any hand soap is fine for this too
A water bottle with warm water
A mug with a flat base
A towel or tea towel is useful
If you have enjoyed this tutorial, please consider subscribing and sharing. It’s free, and you will be notified via email each time I share a new blog post.
I have created a second part of the tutorial, where I demonstrate the hand embroidery stitches I like to use and share examples of my hand-embroidered, felted landscapes that I exhibited in Felixstowe recently. Let me know in the comments below if this is something you would like to see.
Thank you for reading my Substack post. Whether you are new here or have been following for a while, thank you for joining in on the fun. I’d love to hear from you if you’ve followed the tutorial in this post and made a felt brooch. Let me know in the comments below.
Thanks,
